12th ANNUAL HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA

A HOWLING SUCCESS!!

On October 19, at the ACTSS 12^th Annual Halloween Extravaganza, 300 people and their pets, enjoyed a wonderful evening of fun, fur and Halloween inspired frolic. With the assistance of Emcee Seanna Collins of Global TV, the Extravaganza raised over $38,000! The evening began with a moving tribute to pets with cancer, and the families that stand by them through this difficult time. The Palace Banquet Facility served a delicious meal enjoyed by all and in between bites, people kept sneaking off to outbid others on their favorite silent auction items.

Dinner was followed by the Balloon Frenzy, a fantastic raffle that has people swarming “real life medical professionals and life savers” with $20 bills to buy balloons containing gift certificates valued at $25-100. Tremendous thanks to Firefighter; Curtis Lomanaski, ICU nurse; Elinor Ohm, RCMP officer; Paul White, the entire Canadian Search and Disaster Dog Assistance Team, Veterinarians; Shari van Boxtell and Doug Hefflefinger, Animal Health Technologist; Erin Gerwing and nursing student; Tiffany Brochu for surviving 3 minutes of frenzy as they were swarmed by dozens of people buying balloons –truly brave souls!

Next; the Pet Costume Contest took the stage and the cheering was enthusiastic for the 25 pets, which included Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimachio, cowboys, a teenage mutant turtle, devils and angels but was eventually won by the Ballerinas Judy, Coqui and Roger Millette (Roger went on to win the Human Costume Contest).

Auctioneer Terry Haddock of Jacks are Wild, created some enthusiastic bidding for a 2010 Winter Olympic Team Jersey signed by the Gold Winning Men’s Hockey Team, a gourmet meal donated by “the Butler Did It”, a designer cake by “Cheryl’s Creations”, a fully operational R2/D2 from Star Wars, a Kananaskis Mountain Helicopter Flight and a La-Z hound Chair donated by Dave Ringnalda.

The evening was a huge success and tremendous thanks must go to all the volunteers and especially to the Halloween Extravaganza team that worked so hard to put on this wonderful evening.
